QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Why do so many motorhomes use the Citroën Jumper platform?
The Jumper (and its equivalents) offers a flat floor and very practical body dimensions for motorhome builders. This makes it an ideal base vehicle for coachbuilt and panel van conversions throughout Europe, which is why many campers on the road today are based on the Jumper platform.
My Citroën Jumper motorhome leans to one side. Are the leaf springs the cause?
A permanent lean, especially when the vehicle is not heavily loaded, often indicates that one of the rear leaf springs has lost height or is partially cracked. Replacing the damaged spring and checking or replacing the opposite side usually solves the issue and restores balance to the vehicle.
Do I need special springs for a motorhome compared to a delivery van?
Motorhomes generally operate at much higher average weight than panel vans, because water tanks, furniture and equipment stay on board all the time. For this reason, we often recommend springs and reinforcing kits selected specifically for motorhome duty, not just based on standard van specifications.
Can I simply add air springs without changing my existing leaf springs?
If the original leaf springs are still structurally sound and not completely flat, adding air springs can be a very effective upgrade. However, if the base springs are already weak, corroded or cracked, it is safer to replace them first and then use air springs or auxiliary springs as additional support.
Is it recommended to replace both springs on the rear axle at the same time?
On older or heavily loaded motorhomes, replacing both rear springs is often the best solution. It keeps the vehicle level, ensures similar stiffness on both sides and reduces the risk of the remaining old spring failing shortly after the first one has been replaced.
What information do you need to recommend the correct Jumper motorhome spring or kit?
Please send us the production year, VIN number if available, body type (panel van conversion, coachbuilt, etc.), photos of the rear axle and the springs, plus any information about existing helper or air spring systems. If you know the rear axle weight from a weighbridge, that also helps us select the most suitable spring or upgrade kit for your Citroën Jumper motorhome.
